Member Spotlight [Julianne McBay]

Most people link health exclusively to physical strength. But that's only part of what we cultivate at Mission. Our physical health is inextricably connected to our emotional, mental and spiritual health and vital to our well being. It's the combination of these that allow us to deal with impossible things.

That's why we felt so compelled to share Julianne's story. The story of how she forged a new life from the one that was shattered. Of overcoming the unthinkable and finding peace, forgiveness, and purpose through her struggle. We hope you find this story as powerful and positive as we find her.

When Julianne was 19 years old she was the victim of a sexual assault.

According to RAINN [Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network] the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, every 92 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. And every 9 minutes, that victim is a child. But only 5 out of every 1,000 perpetrators will end up in prison.

Knowing the staggering number of individuals who have experienced similar attacks Julianne made the bold and courageous decision to share her story in hopes that by doing so she would open the door for other victims of assault and let them know they are not alone.

You can read Julianne's full interview with Access Magazine here.

If you have been the victim of sexual violence please speak up, reach out and know that help is only a phone call away. Call 800-656-HOPE to be connected with a trained staff member from a sexual assault service provider in your area.

My biggest accomplishment is definitely Molly Mac and my boys William and Emile.

Favorite thing about Mobile?

Too many to list. I’m in love with the historic homes. I love the people.

Favorite class at Mission Fitness?

My favorite class is hard to pin down. The classes are more about the people in them. I’ve made real friends in these classes. Weekdays are fun because I see Alison and Jessica! I love Saturdays! I love Ashley’s class followed by Chad’s. It’s the only time I get to see them because of work. So...all of them?

What motivates you to stay consistent with your workouts?

I believe you can’t be happy without really moving your body. I love endorphins!

What do you like to do when you’re not working out at Mission Fitness?

I love my dogs and my home. I’m super extroverted when I’m out during the day. I need my evenings to recharge. So, if I am not working out, I love being at home with my dogs (3 dachshunds and an oversized yellow Labrador)

Any tips for current or prospective members?

Don’t delay. Come on in. The folks there are not just talking the talk. They are walking the walk!
