Member Spotlight - Stacy Powell

MEET [Stacy] Meet Mission Fitness Legacy Member, Stacy Powell. Stacy works full-time and recently completed her Masters in Nursing, but that doesn't keep her from making her health a priority. When her schedule keeps her from attending a class, Stacy hits [Open Gym]. Learn more about Stacy and what keeps her motivated to workout each week.

Hometown? I’m originally from Palatka, a small town in northern central Florida. My family moved to Dothan, Alabama when I was in middle school, which is where my parents still live. I moved to Mobile for college and have been here ever since. I’m proud to call Mobile home now.

Occupation? I currently work as a registered nurse at Greater Mobile Urgent Care and Rehydrate at the Springhill location.

Biggest accomplishment? I recently graduated with my Masters in Nursing from the Nurse Practitioner program at the Univeristy of South Alabama and passed my boards! It was one of the more challenging things I’ve ever done but one that I’m very proud of.

Favorite thing about Mobile? I love that there’s always something going on and the local scene is very active. Mobile is just big enough to attract big names and events but small enough that there is a sense of community and pride.

Favorite Class at Mission Fitness? I love Row + Reform + Resist on Friday mornings. It’s a variety of methods all wrapped into one and is a great workout. By the time you’re getting tired at one station, it’s time to move onto the next one. It’s refreshing and flies by. And it’s followed by Coffee Run which I look forward to every week. I try to always make sure my Friday mornings are cleared so I don’t miss out!

What motivates you to stay consistent with your workouts? I’ve never stayed as consistent as I have been until I joined Mission Fitness. There is such a variety of classes so you’re never bored, and the instructors have a way of staying positive and pushing you past what you think your limits are without singling you out or shaming you. Jessica and Alison have created a community here that makes you want to come to workout. Their classes are fun and energizing, and you look forward to not only working out but seeing your friends as well.

What do you like to do when you’re not working out at Mission Fitness? My husband and I are part of a kickball league that we play in every Thursday with our friends. We like going to concerts, movies, baseball games, and football games. I enjoy cooking and baking, and now that I’m done with school I look forward to reading books that aren’t medical related.

Any tips for current or prospective members? Try out a new class and don’t be intimidated. If you only ever do Pilates, try rowing or vice versa. You might discover a new workout that you didn’t know you loved!
